Short for topography and terrain, TopoTerra was born out of the necessity to travel and the desire to explore the endless terrain right in our very own backyards. We truly believe that everyone should have the means to explore, become one with nature, and take advantage of beautiful surroundings. We specialize in off-grid adventure vehicle and camping rentals to help you do just that. Whether you’re looking to head up to the mountains with the family, for a quick weekend trip to Baja, or a full blown overlanding expedition, we’ve got the vehicles and equipment to get you where you want to go. We currently offer off-road overland style trucks, trailers and rooftop tents. Soon we plan to offer camper vans and, OHV’s (side by sides, dirt bikes, etc).
You are renting by the night, not the day.
Departure times (pick up) are in the afternoon between 1-4pm, and return times are in the morning between 9-11am. Early departures and late returns can be accommodated for an additional fee depending on availability.
Yes, insurance is a mandatory component when renting in order to protect you the renter, as well as our vehicles.
Rental insurance can either be provided by your own personal auto insurance policy (if they will cover you) or through one of our 3rd party insurance providers. For more information on insurance, please contact a TopoTerra representative.
Mexico and Canada travels are permitted on certain vehicles with added rental insurance and a larger security deposit. Please consult a TopoTerra representative for a list of approved rental options.
Off-road travel is permitted with the understanding that in certain situations, insurance coverage may be voided. At no time is extreme off-roading (rock crawling, water crossings, mudding, etc.) allowed. Renter is acknowledging that they understand this when signing the contract, and are taking 100% financial responsibility for the rental, regardless if insurance covers the damage or loss.
There is a 20% or a $300-$500 down payment (which ever is greater) required at time of booking to reserve the rental. The balance will be charged 14-days prior to departure and the security deposit three days prior to departure.
From the date of reservation and up to 30 days before departure, TopoTerra will refund the down payment amount less a $50 processing fee. If canceled within 30 days of departure, but more than 14 days from departure, 50% of down payment amounts will be refunded. If canceled within 14 days of departure, no refunds will be given and full reservation amount will be due. Please allow seven days to process any refund.
The minimum age for rentals is 25 years old. With OHV’s rentals, the minimum driving age is 18 if accompanied by an adult 25 years or older. All renters must pass a basic DMV background check. International drivers are welcome with a valid passport, driver’s license from your country and an international driver’s permit (available online) if your native license is not in English.
We advise that you plan your route carefully when renting a RTT. Severe conditions like wind, excessively hot or cold temperatures, heavy rain, etc. are not advised in a rooftop tent and will not make for an enjoyable experience.
Yes, we can package rentals together to make for one all-inclusive rental package. Please consult a TopoTerra representative to plan out your desired rental package and pricing structure.
Yes, we do offer delivery to your home, campsite, etc. for an additional fee. Please select the delivery option at checkout and we will reach out to discuss options, pricing, etc.
Yes, there is a refundable security/damage deposit on all rentals ranging from $500-$3200 depending on rental type, value and your destination. Out of country travel require an added security deposit. You will be able to view your base security/damage deposit at checkout, or please consult a TopoTerra representative to get an exact quote for your trip.
Free miles range from 100-150 miles per night paid for at full-price. Additional miles start at $.65/mile thereafter and are subject to change. Please consult a TopoTerra representative for an exact mileage estimate based on your rental, destination, etc.
Yes, one pet is allowed in most of our rentals. There is a $10/night pet fee that will be added to your reservation. If there is pet hair, damage, or odors upon return, there will be an additional cleaning fee charged.
The tent transfer fee applies to tent only rentals only or can be added if a different RTT is requested than what comes with the vehicle or trailer already. This fee covers the time and labor to remove the tent and add it to your vehicle, or to switch it to the desired rental vehicle. Remember, you must have proper racking setup ahead of time in order to be able to rent an RTT only. TopoTerra does not provide or install racking at all.
The prep/clean fee is for us to be able to clean, sanitize, and detail the vehicle for your trip, as well as the same upon your return. You are not required to clean the rental, unless it’s excessively dirty.
Includes a basic tool kit, first aid & emergency kits, small air compressor, tire deflation tools, tire patch kits, lithium ion battery jump starter, headlamps, vehicle jack, recovery boards and tow strap.
Pre-Departure
Yes, we offer all types of trip outfitting add-ons for your renting pleasure. For a full list of options, please see our gear page or view and add rental options at checkout.
Yes, at departure a TopoTerra vehicle expert will go through a detailed walkthrough on the vehicle, it’s systems, tips and tricks, etc. We don’t let you hit the road until you are fully comfortable.
On the Trail
We are here as a resource to help get you back on the road or trail as quickly as possible. Although we do keep our rentals in great condition, things do happen. We’re here to help fix any issues and get you back camping as quickly as possible.
We have roadside assistance at as option through a 3rd party company Coach-Net. It’s $15/day and can be selected at checkout. This service provides 24 hours of assistance every day to help get you back on the road as quickly as possible when an issue occurs.
Post Trip
You have already paid a prep/clean fee therefore, we don’t ask you to clean the vehicle. The only exception here is if there is excessive dirt, mud, spills, etc. beyond a reasonable amount. Please make sure to remove your personal belongings and any trash, debris, etc.
We are fairly quick at getting you your money back barring any damage or additional fees. Typically, we release the funds within 2-3 business days, but sometimes it can take up to 7-days. If there is damage or additional money owed, we reserve the right to hold the deposit for as long as needed to settle out monies owed.
